Villa Hartland Estate: 5-Bedroom Ubud Villa with Rice-Field Infinity Pool

Villa Hartland Estate is set into the slopes of Ubud's scenic Sayan Ridge, overlooking a patchwork of rice paddies beside the Ayung River, a seven-minute drive from the center of Ubud. Designed by celebrated architect Yew Kuan — the mind behind Como Shambhala Estate — the five-bedroom retreat is woven into a 6,000 m² estate of gardens, river, and terraced paddies. It sleeps 10.

The villa is composed of four suites with genuine heritage in their bones: three are built from reclaimed antique Javanese houses — a Joglo, a Java house, and a Gladak — each grass-roofed, air-conditioned, and fronted by a large wooden deck with open space for morning yoga or meditation. The Joglo Suite's downstairs bathroom features a remarkable open shower on its own deck over the valley. The fourth, Marian's Cottage, is a two-bedroom stucco cottage with a living and dining verandah. Almost all the furniture was hand-made on site from reclaimed teak and old ironwood by Javanese artisans, with feature stone brought from the island of Sumba.

The estate runs on two kitchens and two dining areas — an open-air dining room behind the suites, and a separate Dining Pavilion atop the Pool House with sweeping views across the river to the rice fields, the mountains, and the distant ocean at sunset. A 26-meter salt-water infinity pool overlooks the paddies, fed by the property's own natural spring. Two fan-cooled meditation gazebos sit further down the hillside near the organic herb and vegetable gardens, alongside a koi pond and an orchid house.

The villa is fully staffed with a private chef, attendants, gardeners, a pool attendant, and night security, with daily continental breakfast, a welcome fruit basket, and all linens included. Ubud's cultural center is about 4.4 km away, Seminyak roughly 70 minutes, and Ngurah Rai International Airport around 38 km.
